Jesus Cares/McNairy County is a ministry formed by the united efforts of 40 plus churches representing nine denominations in McNairy County, which have combined their benevolence giving into one program. This program is run out of one office in Selmer, TN which then provides emergency aide to citizens of the county. The program is run by an all volunteer staff which now includes over 225 trained office and case management workers.

“Our clients have been given help aid, and referrals from everything from head lice to suicide within the family. We deal in-house with budgets, clothing, food, utilities, and spiritual counseling. Other problems are referred out to the proper agencies which deal with specific situations in our area,” said Jesus Cares director Jimmy Whittington.

Jesus Cares has helped over 750 clients and spent over $60,000 thus far. At 2008 year end, projections from McNairy County demographics indicated the ministry would help approximately 500 clients during the 2009 year. But these statistics were published before the recession hit the community. Jesus Cares is being forced into adjustments that will require a $130,000 budget for the next fiscal year.
