Masco Bath gives working donation to Food Bank of South Jersey
MOORESTOWN, NJ (October 7, 2009) — To alleviate hunger in the region, employees of Masco Bath spent the morning of October 7 packing meals for the Food Bank of South Jersey’s KidzPack program. The program feeds thousands of children in four counties of South Jersey.

In addition to contributing time, Masco Bath’s President Chris Yankowich presented food bank CEO Val Traoré with a check for $5,000.

“Our goal is to help alleviate homelessness and hunger in the region,” said Chris Yankowich, president of Masco Bath in Moorestown, N.J. “With the downturn in the economy, we know food donations have declined at a time when kids need help the most. We’re confident the donation of money and time from Masco Bath employees will help the Food Bank of South Jersey carry on its vital work.”

Nearly a dozen Masco Bath employees worked at FBSJ’s headquarters and warehouse in Pennsauken, packing balanced, kid-friendly meals that will be distributed this weekend.

More than 60,000 children are enrolled in the free/reduced price lunch programs in South Jersey schools. But on weekends they risk going hungry. Every Friday, the KidzPack program provides school-aged children with a backpack full of nutritionally balanced meals to sustain them over the weekend. These packs are carefully designed to allow children to prepare the meals with minimal supervision.

Current KidzPack locations include: Davis Elementary, Camden City and The Boys and Girls Club, Paulsboro.

Yankowich said the donation comes from Masco Corporation’s Foundation. “Masco Bath submitted an application to the foundation on behalf of this very worthy organization. The food bank was subsequently awarded a grant in response to the recommendation made by Masco Bath employees. I applaud them for taking the initiative and successfully securing a grant for the Food Bank of South Jersey.”
